Detox, Cleanse, Fast, Diet, 3~5~7~10 days, What does it all mean?

The title doesn’t even say it all does it. Are you confused? Don’t worry, most people are & that’s ok. I’m here to help figure it all out! ;)

Detoxing, Cleansing, Dieting, Fasting, Raw Food, Smoothie, Juicing, Lemonade’s, Packages, Pills & Tinctures……

3 days, 5 days, 7 days, 21 days….

What does this all mean????

When would you do a 3 day Juice Cleanse compared to a 7 day Smoothie Detox?

What’s the difference?

Is there one?

What is better for YOU?

Are any of these safe?

Let’s start by separating them into their own distinct categories.

Detox

A Detox is quite simply either the process of eliminating a number of specific foods (depending on the type of Detox) or the process of only ingesting certain kinds of food (again depending on the type of Detox), for an alloted time period to remove unwanted toxins & wastes from your body. A Detox may also help with the removal of excess water retention, excess weight, symptoms of allergies, dis~ease, mucous, etc.

Cleanse

A Cleanse is quite simply either the process of eliminating a number of specific foods (depending on the type of Cleanse) or the process of only ingesting certain kinds of food (again depending on the type of Cleanse), for an alloted time period to remove unwanted toxins & wastes from your body. A detox may also help with the removal of excess water retention, excess weight, symptoms of allergies, dis~ease, mucous, etc.

Both Cleanse’s & Detoxes can involve Pills, Tinctures, Foods, Teas & or Herbs to help the body deal with the removal of Toxins.

Fasting

Fasting is a dramatic way of elimination. Usually a fast is when you allow nothing but Filtered water into your body for an alloted time period, otherwise known as an Abstenence from Eating. I have heard of Fast’s that don’t even allow Water, (but I’m not going to go there). Fast’s are quite common around the world. There are a number of cultures that have Religious Fast’s. In reality, a Fast can & should be a Spiritual experience. The fact that your body is being deprived & cleansed all at once is a Magical Journey, one that is not only for the Body, but for the Mind & Spirit. A journey that should not be taken lightly or without the Guidance of a Respected & Knowledgeable Leader. I do not consult regarding Fast’s.

Diet

The word Diet is a horrid horrid word that, in my opinion, should be banned! For far too many people it means Deprivation, Denial, Scales, Tasteless Food, Counting Calories, Hunger, Starvation, Lack, Re~Bound Weight & even more. Diet is a Never~Ending cylce of Fads, & Extreme ways of eating. It is nearly always Un~Healthy & Harmful to our Bodies. Opt for changing your eating habits for Life, instead of starting a Diet for the week. Let’s delete this word from our language for good!

Smoothies

Smoothies are a very simple way of getting a wonderful amount of Nutrients into your body with little effort by your body to break it down & use it up. They work well on the go & you can throw anything (I mean anything) in them & make it taste good! By Blending Fruits & Vegetables together in a Mixer/Blender (I use a Ninja!), you are breaking down the foods into smaller more manageable pieces for your body to use (or Pre~Digesting it in a way). This gives your body a rest (it take a lot of work to break food down properly!) Another Important Pro of Smoothies is that there is no removal of any parts of the foods specifically Fibre, in other words, you get all the good stuff but it’s made easier for your body to use. Doing a Smoothie Cleanse for up to 10 (or more) days should be safe as long as you clear it with a Health Professional & don’t have any major Health issues. Smoothies are best for you when made with as many Green Life Giving Vegetables as possible. Keep the Fruit & Sweets to a minimum, a little goes a long way here. There are also a ton of ways to bump up your smoothies Detoxifying (or Cleansing) ways (check out the top ten smoothie additions here).

Juicing

Juicing is similar to a smoothie in many ways (easy drinkable meal, fast, healthy, can throw anything into it), but unlike a smoothie because it takes all of the fibre & pulp out of the Fruits & Veggies & basically gives your body more of a break from having to break anything down. Juicing is a wonderful way to start your day. On an empty stomach your body is starting the day with an enormous boost of nutrients & it doesn’t even have to do any work! As with smoothies, you can pretty much add anything in them to make it taste good & still be tremendously good for you~ & yet again, the more Green you add, the better! A juice Cleanse can be safely done between 3~7+ days (as long as you clear it with a Health Professional & don’t have any major Health issues) but you must remember to add Fibre in some way everyday (pills, flax seeds, chia, etc). Because Juicing takes out all the fibre, you MUST add it in or your elimination will be hampered ;)


Raw

Raw is what it sounds like. You can do a world of good to your body by only giving it Raw foods. Don’t be scared off tho, there is so much more to Raw Foods than plain old Salads or Carrot Sticks. Raw food includes things like Hummus, Sprouted Seeds & Nuts. You can make raw Spaghetti, Crackers, Burgers, Desserts & more! It is also a bit confusing in the fact that you can cook things to a degree (& that degree is 118, anything hotter & it’s not considered Raw) Choosing the correct Raw foods can exponentially speed up a Cleanse (or Detox).

Guidelines

Many if not all of these processes should advise you to eliminate Dairy, Meat & Fish,

Sugars, Caffeine, Alcohol, Tobacco & DrugsĀ  (very important). Most will also request that Grains, Beans & Lentils be eliminated, at least for a short time. This is because they take longer to digest, & for some, are the reason their bodies are so toxic.

Starting & Ending a Fast, Cleanse, Detox or other New Food Eating Way should be done with the help & support of a Knowledgable Nutritional Coach (like me!) as there are many precautions & preparations to consider. Failing to Plan is of course a Plan to Fail. There are also a number of Supportive Detox Related Additions that you should consider such as Dry Brushing, Enema’s etc.

The last step in your journey is the overwhelming feeling of Pride, Acommplishment & Confidence you will have when you see just how far you can go (& have come)!

  2. This is very informative and interesting. One of my friends went on a cleanse that only allowed him to drink water with lemon juice, or lemons. But he also had purified water to ensure he would be cleansed of everything.

  3. Thanks for the breakdown. It does get confusing and trendy. :-) I want to detox but I am not wanting to go with the latest trend but the one best for me.
